Coach Terry Stotts was in the running for Coach of the Year in the NBA and star guard Damian Lillard, despite playing poorly in the Denver series, had sent home the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round, with an all-time great playoff buzzer-beater. Rip City fans were riding high, as the potential for the franchise’s first title since 1977 was on the horizon.
