Catlin Gabel Student Association (CGSA) president Ben “Mr. President” Rosenfeld has been in office a total of 11 months, dating back to his election in April of 2022.
Throughout his time in office, Rosenfeld has prioritized his role as president over every other aspect of his life.
“Being CGSA president has shaken up my entire life…even at night, I find that my dreams are dominated by my hopes and dreams for the Catlin Gabel student body.” Rosenfeld says passionately.
In 2022 Rosenfeld was inspired to run for the role of CGSA president by a “deep down desire for power that I’d felt my whole life.”
He felt in that moment that it was necessary for CGS to have an authoritative figure, who would fight to make change.
While Rosenfeld has had many great accomplishments as CGSA president, such as lessening the volume of notifications from the Titan app and becoming a notorious clickbait email sender, he says his proudest achievement thus far is “occasionally I am able to get George Pritchard to show up to [CGSA] meetings, and I’ve been able to reign in the wild spirit of Donnie Reuther.”
Over his productive and exciting months as CGSA president, Rosenfeld has become a reliable and well respected gentleman around campus. He describes his relationship with the CGS community stating,
“Whenever I see any of my constituents around the beautiful 68- acre campus, I’m greeted by salutes and often have to say ‘at ease.’ I act like I don’t like it, but it’s the highlight of my day everytime.”
Rosenfeld’s duties as CGSA president consume his life entirely, even outside of his busy and productive school days. He finds he is always thinking of the best interest of the CGS student body.
“Whenever I’m making small and seemingly insignificant decisions, it’s in the back of my mind, what should the CGSA president do in this scenario? Is the upper lib bathroom or science bathroom more presidential? And what would the student body want from me?”
In more serious situations, Rosenfeld is often given feedback from the student body about issues in the CGS community. Recently he has responded to feedback about hygiene suggestions for underclassmen as well as the feedback “do something.”
Rosenfeld is always actively thinking about the feedback he receives and how he, the CGSA president, can be of service to our community.
As the end of the 2022/23 school year draws close, Rosenfeld must begin to think about concluding his reign as CGSA president.
“I’ve been starting to get a little bit emotional, thinking about what I’ve done this past year, and who I’m going to hand the baton off to.”
CGSA elections have begun being organized by vice president Keola Edelen Hare, for the 2023/24 school year. There is obviously a sense of fear when passing such large responsibilities along, “but I’m hopeful, I see a wonderful generation of candidates. I won’t endorse any of them and, if it doesn’t work out and no candidates meet the imposing threshold, then I might just have to keep the office.”
