After winning the state championship two out of the last three years, the boys varsity soccer team is gearing up for another run at the title.

The Eagles have enjoyed a tremendous amount of success over the second half of the decade, boasting a record of 70-6-13 since the 2014 season.

In similar fashion, this season, they have come out the gates red hot, with a record of 6-0. The closest games they’ve had this season were twice winning by only four goals. Overall, they have a goal differential of 30 to 4. With incredible success comes pressure, and they’re well aware of that.

“There’s sort of an expectation that we are going to do well again this year,” said senior captain Ezra Rich. “We’re one of two favorites to make it to the state championships, and we’ve been going back and forth with OES to win.”

The No. 1 ranked Aardvarks have a record of 5-0-1, and a marginally better goal differential of  29 to three. No. 3 ranked Damascus Christian and No. 4 ranked Brookings Harbor are also undefeated.

If you want to see a rematch of last year’s state championship game, No. 2 ranked Catlin Gabel take on Oregon Episcopal School (OES) on Friday, Sept. 27 at OES. Homecoming is on the following Friday, Oct. 4, where the Eagles take on the Aardvarks at home.
