Get to know the CGSA President
By Elise Song ‘20
Meet Catlin Gabel Student Association (CGSA) President, Arjun Jain, a senior committed to making change in our community.
As president, Jain’s responsibilities include coordinating assemblies, setting the CGSA agenda, communicating with the administration, and representing the student body on the Board of Trustees.
Last year, Jain was CGSA Treasurer. There were many changes he wanted to make but with little time and a large focus on Takeaway Day, he was not able to. He was inspired to run for president because he wanted to make an impact.
“As president, I could set the agenda with my other CGSA members and make actual change,” said Jain.
He hopes to address the small things that make student life easier, like bringing back weekly schedules in the InsideCatlin viewer.
Larger objectives include supporting clubs and making the processes more transparent for fundraising and requesting funds from the school. Reducing dance costs and potentially changing Takeaway Day are other goals.
Jain hopes to increase student involvement in the CGSA by holding office hours and opening meetings to everyone.
“Unless we have that engagement with the students, there is no point of the CGSA,” he said.
Jain feels lucky to have other committed members on the CGSA.
“We are all committed to the same goals, but we have diverse opinions… [which is] more representative of the student body,” he shared.
In his spare time, Jain watches “The Office” and “Psych.” He admits to being a huge foodie, his favorite dish being red curry. A fan of Roger Federer, Jain loves to play and watch tennis. He is involved in clubs like Model United Nations, Mock Trial, and Science Bowl. Jain has played the guitar for six years and would like to have a betta fish.
On Sept. 23, Jain sent an email to the Upper School called “CGSA ‘Office Hours’ and Haiku Page,” inviting the student body to his “office hours” during Co-Curricular and lunch on F days. So, go and share ideas with our committed CGSA president.
