The Secret Behind Homecoming

On Friday the 1st of October an event known as Homecoming at Catlin Gabel School (CGS) kicked off. This tradition was also known as a positive community-building event that lets students support their fellow athletes.
When asked about this sporting event, CGS Sophomore Bristol Hager described it as “a time that highlights our community and our sense of support for one another.”
Homecoming wasn’t just for students and athletes of CGS. Instead, it was an environment that’s fun for everyone. Whether you watched family play, spent time with friends, or cheered on CGS teams, there was something for everyone.
Take it from Samantha Long, a sophomore who has attended homecoming and other CGS sports events to cheer on siblings, now as well as before she went to CGS.
“You get to hang out with both your close friends and those who you're less likely to spend time with,” she said “It’s always been really positive and fun seeing the whole Catlin community, even when I wasn’t a part of it myself. Being able to watch my brother play and support him and those who are representing Catlin was also fun.”
The week leading up to the game was considered important as well.
“Spirit week brings attention to homecoming. It prepares and hypes everyone up for the games,” Hager describes.
Spirit Week was a time for grade levels to playfully compete for class prizes by dressing up. Some examples of themes included twin day, class colors, and most importantly school spirit day, which took place on the day of the game.
“It brings attention to the events taking place so more people will attend and there will be more hype.” included Long.
Overall, Catlin Gabel’s Homecoming was a time for the school to come together and cheer on the teams playing. Did you go?
